About the Artist

A. Lamaignère brings the listening dog of La Voix de Son Maître into an advertisement for a newer way to play records. Credited to the artist in 1952, this vintage poster promotes the French brand under the Pathé-Marconi name printed at its foot. The connection to recorded sound reaches back to Nipper, the dog made famous through a painting by Francis Barraud. Here, Lamaignère draws on that familiar identity to advertise domestic equipment. This A. Lamaignère art print offers a specific glimpse of mid-century advertising, when an established gramophone emblem could introduce a modern record player.

The Artwork

One machine, three speeds: the promise behind 3 Vitesses answered a practical question for anyone buying records in the early 1950s. Older shellac discs generally played at 78 rpm, while newer vinyl formats brought 33⅓ and 45 rpm into the home. A three-speed player allowed listeners to accommodate these different formats without replacing their entire collection. La Voix de Son Maître connected its established reputation to that transition. Preserved as a vintage print, the advertisement documents a moment when buying a record player meant considering both music already owned and recordings still to come.

Style & Characteristics

Light streaks across the black record, drawing the eye toward its green centre label before the golden tonearm leads it to the right. Above, a large yellow 3 separates the gramophone horn from the seated dog against a smoky dark patch. The orange-red ground surrounds these figures, and VITESSES curves beneath the numeral. Tall green letters spell LA VOIX DE SON MAÎTRE across the lower band, above the black production credit. In this fine art print, the contrast between the illustrated equipment and the oversized lettering gives the mid-century graphic design its unmistakable emphasis on scale.

In Interior Design

Picture a listening corner where a low walnut record cabinet stands beneath this vertical poster. The printed disc echoes the records stored below, while the orange-red background brings colour above the dark wood. A narrow black frame would pick up the grooves without competing with the green lettering. For music-focused home decor, the connection is tangible: the equipment pictured on the wall relates directly to the turntable beneath it. Let this record player wall art guide the interior decoration of that single corner, leaving enough bare wall around the frame for the yellow numeral to remain legible.
